How to Re-Grow Green Onions
I can’t take credit for this tip. I saw it on Ryan’s site over at This Is Reverb. I told Mr. Wonderful about it and of course, he wanted to try it.
The next time we used a bunch of green onions, we put the white roots in a glass of water (an inch or two) and set it on the windowsill where the sun could help it along. Change the water every morning and watch them grow!

Look closer.
You can see where we cut the onions off a mere 3-4 days ago. They’ve already grown back!

ok, I admit I am a little stumped by this one….you take the little root part on the very end of the white (that I usually cut off) and put it in water and it grows back white AND green?? Or did you only use green and put ALL of the white back in water??

Bunny – on the picture, where the red arrow points? You can see the new growth coming out. We cut ours off a little above where the white part ends and then just stuck it into a glass with the water. All the green growth you see on the picture is brand new.

I have been doing this for years now, always cut of the green part and placed the white in the water root and all.
Last year I tried something different I planted the wight end in the ground in my garden and they grew I had green onions all summer =)

Wonder if this would also work with chives? I like the idea of a water base vs. even soilless medium. Changing the water is really critical as it turns to slime quickly…..the voice of experience!
